Ingredients
  

Butter and Sugars

  • 10 tablespoon salted butter brown the butter first
  • cup packed light brown sugar
  • cup granulated sugar

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour measure accurately
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda adjust for taller cookies
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Chocolate

  • 3 oz dark chocolate coarsely chopped into chunks
  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • to taste flaky sea salt optional for topping

Instructions
 

Cookie Preparation

  • Brown the butter by heating it in a saucepan until it turns golden and has brown specks. Allow to cool.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, mix cooled brown butter with both sugars until combined and thick.
  • Add egg, milk, and vanilla; mix until creamy.
  • Fold in the flour mixture until mostly combined, then add chocolate chunks and chips.
  • Refrigerate the dough for 1-4 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  • Scoop and roll dough into balls, placing them on baking sheets 3 inches apart. Optionally press extra chocolate on top.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden on top and soft in the middle. Cool on sheets for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired and enjoy!
