For the Sandwich

  • 4 slices Bread Sourdough, white, or whole wheat
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Softened
  • ½ cup Marinara or Pizza Sauce Homemade or store-bought
  • 1 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese Part-skim for a healthier option
  • ¼ cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • ¼ cup Turkey Pepperoni Optional; can replace with veggies
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
  • ¼ cup Chopped Fresh Basil For garnish

Directions

  • Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice, then sprinkle with garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
  • On the unbuttered side, layer marinara sauce, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, and your choice of toppings. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side up.
  • Place a skillet over medium-low heat. Cook the sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Remove from the skillet, let cool briefly, slice in half, and garnish with fresh basil. Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.
