Ingredients
  

For the Apple Cider Donuts

  • 1.5 cups apple cider reduced to ½ cup
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 cups unsalted butter room temperature
  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cups brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.5 cups buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing baked donuts

Instructions
 

Step 1: Reduce the Apple Cider

  • Pour 1½ cups apple cider into a saucepan.
  • Simmer over medium heat until reduced to ½ cup.
  • Set aside to cool.

Step 2: Make the Dough

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, beat the butter with sugars until creamy.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, then mix in the reduced cider, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  • Slowly stir in the dry ingredients until combined. The dough will be sticky.

Step 3: Chill the Dough

  • Cover and refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour. This makes it easier to roll and cut.

Step 4: Shape the Donuts

  • Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough to about ½-inch thickness.
  • Cut out donuts using a donut cutter or two round cutters.
  • Re-roll scraps and repeat.

Notes

Ensure the donuts are cooled completely before coating them in cinnamon sugar.
